The Coach and Horses, Union Street.
This the second of three pubs of this name in Norwich and our visit may have been unfruitful but it wasn’t without it’s own intrigue.
After dismounting our steeds we noticed a Police coach parked outside, inside there was a barman with a rather long face and all the rest of the herd were stabled in anxious waiting. Trying extract information from the troop we found out there was some sort of personal altercation between the stud serving drinks and another dark horse. We wanted to get more of the nitty gritty details but we also didn’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth and push our luck so we decided to hold our horses. We were able to purchase one round of drinks but were unable on our second attempt. We were informed by a kind mare that we would be flogging a dead horse in trying. We would have to wait until the Mountie had gotten a statement straight from the horse’s mouth. We thought this was pony but we weren’t going to get up on our high horse and claim that the customer should come first so we decided to bolt it. We found that you can lead a horse to water but it doesn’t mean it can drink it.
The grand building looks powerful, just as you imagine a pub way out in the sticks would look, even though it’s just outside the center hidden in suburbia. Not sure if we saw all the rooms as we didn’t do our normal nosy about but the main room look rather cramped compared to the outside persona.
We obviously didn’t get to have a full experience here and our rating will reflect that but from what we saw we won’t be rushing back to see what we missed.
Entertainment
Pool table. Music channel was on the television but may have been muted due to the current situation.
Drinks
We did see any guest ales and didn’t fancy a pint of Policeman’s Truncheon.
Rating
3.4 pints out of 10
