The Coach and Horses, Bethel Street.
If you are interested in playing bar billiards then this is great place to start. Although the table can be busy, especially on league game nights, it’s a great way to get to grips with the game, join a team or even start your own. This great billiards table maybe a little cramped when the table closest to it seems to be constantly fill with a big group of people who seem confused that you need them to move a bit so that they don’t get poked amidst the fast paced action. Always appearing before every shot wanted to get pass and not realising the game is on a timer meaning that your balls come before their beer. Be careful before you act out any ball bashing though because there’s a police station just down the road. Nestled around the corner from the main market square in the city centre it can be a nice place to rest and forget about city life while trying to avoid hitting any billiard mushrooms.
This smallish pub can often seem quite full but has some comfortable sitting and a cosy country cottage feel, although the main room reminds us of a western saloon.
Cask ale and craft beers are plentiful and they even sport the helpful honey pots to see what colour drinks are. After our initial disappointment when found out that these are not free takeaway samples. We personally don’t use these and go by repeatedly failed technique of taking a wild stab in the dark and choosing the one with the best name and badge, preferably something with a funny animal in the title. Still hoping to find a nice crisp pint of Crushing Platypus on our travels.
